Version 7
I expanded the editors with more SNES games and Genesis support, including Mega Man: The Wily Wars.
For The Love Of The Game
I created Save State Masters to give you more control over your games. This is its official home, with the original software, game library, and a new chapter ahead.

A piece of emulation history,
with a home of its own.
Welcome Back To Your Favorites
From the living-room classics to the handhelds that went everywhere. Your next adventure starts with a familiar favorite.

From The Original Creator
Save State Masters began with a simple idea: your saved game could be a starting point for something more.
I built Save State Masters to open emulator save states and make supported game values editable. Extra lives, different items, a chance to experiment—small changes could open up a different adventure.
Now I’m bringing my software and its history together in one place. You can explore the games, find the original emulator formats, and download the classic Windows release.
This is the official home of Save State Masters, maintained by its original owner and author.

The idea behind
Save State Masters.
Save a moment in your emulator. Open the matching file in the original utility. Adjust the supported values, then load the edited state.
Keep an untouched backup first.
Available edits depend on the game and release.
Load the edited file in the matching emulator.

A Few Familiar Adventures
Explore my original game library, with the systems and emulator families the editors were built around. Available edits and formats vary by game and release.
Emulator families are shown by system. For systems with several formats, check the selected game’s Open File dialog for the formats that editor accepts. Exact emulator versions and modern compatibility have not been retested. Game names belong to their respective owners.
Original Formats
These are the emulator families used by the original editors. Choose the format listed in your game’s Open File dialog.

The releases that shaped Save State Masters—and where I’m taking it next.
My original Windows release, preserved unchanged. The executable identifies itself as SaveState Master v9, file version 9.00.0002.
Original bytes preserved. Modern compatibility untested.

Version 9 is the original package available here today, including the editor and its Visual Basic 6 runtime files.
I’m giving Save State Masters a lasting home, documenting its original formats, and making the classic release available again.
The preserved release is a legacy Windows application with Visual Basic 6 dependencies. It has not been tested on current Windows versions. The archive has been inspected without launching it; this site does not claim modern compatibility.
No. My game library and the version 7 release notes differ, and save-state formats depend on emulator versions and game revisions. Keep a backup and verify the specific game, editor, and emulator combination. The searchable list documents my original game library, not a new compatibility test.
This is a showcase and preservation site for the original desktop software. The interactive illustration explains the idea using fictional values. It does not open or modify real save states.
The recovered ZIP contains ssm9.exe, MSVBVM60.DLL, and COMDLG32.OCX. It contains no games, ROMs, BIOS files, or example save states.
There is room for a future update. For now, the priority is preserving what exists and recovering the original material. No new release date or feature roadmap has been announced.
Save State Masters has a place to continue.
